A Passion for Electronics
My fascination with how things work goes beyond just writing code. I have a strong background in tinkering with Arduino, ESP32, and ATtiny processors. From wiring up automatic comfort room lightings to building hallway light sensors, I have always been deeply interested in the basics of electronics. That foundational knowledge naturally paved the way for my most ambitious home project yet: harnessing the power of the sun.
The Spark & The Struggle
My personal journey into DIY solar began in earnest back in 2024. However, the seeds for this project were planted five years ago. I always knew I wanted to go solar, and I finally realized that now is the absolute perfect time for everyone to make the transition. But when I took my first steps, I ran into a wall of complexity.
The planning phase was incredibly cumbersome. Even with my existing electronics background, doing all the complicated math estimation for parts, figuring out the perfect components, and ensuring my entire setup was safe felt overwhelming. For DIYers, finding the perfect wiring that meets strict safety standards and understanding how all the pieces fit together is a massive hurdle. It was frustrating and incredibly intimidating.
Despite the challenges, I pushed through. Today, I am proud to say that I run a 5kW solar setup at my own home. It doesn't just power our household—it actually generates enough energy to share with my neighbors! Building this system proved to me that energy independence is completely achievable, but it shouldn't be this hard for the next person.
Giving Back to the Community
But I wasn't alone.When I was just starting out and knew absolutely nothing, the solar community became my lifeline. I was amazed by how helpful, patient, and knowledgeable people were. Veterans and enthusiasts were answering my endless questions, guiding me through the confusing parts, and helping me figure out where to start—all without ever asking for money or expecting anything in exchange. Their selflessness deeply inspired me.
That is precisely why I created Solar Panda. I wanted to give back to the very community that helped me when I needed it most. With my ten years of web development expertise, I knew I had the exact skills needed to build a tool that could automate the difficult, precise calculations I wrestled with. Solar Panda provides the precision, safety checks, and step-by-step guidance that I desperately needed as a beginner. It felt like the right time to use my expertise to help others skip the headaches and get straight to building reliable solar setups.
A Vision for the Philippines
Beyond just helping individuals, my larger inspiration is to help the Philippines reach its ambitious renewable energy targets. I believe that by empowering regular people to easily understand, plan, and build DIY solar solutions, we can collectively make a massive impact on our environment and our country's future. Our vision is a future where the majority of the Philippines uses clean, sustainable power, and Solar Panda is my contribution to making that a reality.
